释义 | Chandler, AlbertChandler, (Albert Benjamin) “Happy”(1898–1991) public official, baseball commissioner; born in Corydon, Ky. He served as governor of Kentucky (1935–39) and U.S. Senator (Dem., 1939–45) before being named as baseball's second commissioner (1945–51). He presided over the game during the breaking of baseball's color line by Jackie Robinson in 1947. He was known as a "players" commissioner because he took an interest in all aspects of the game. He served a second term as governor of Kentucky (1955–59). In 1982 he was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame. |
