EGP

(1) (Exterior Gateway Protocol) A broad category of routing protocols that are designed to span different autonomous systems. Contrast with IGP.

(2) (Exterior Gateway Protocol) The original exterior gateway routing protocol (see above), which was widely used in the U.S. Data Defense Network (DDN) and National Science Foundation Network (NSFNet). EGP was a distance vector protocol that used polling to retrieve routing information. EGP was superseded by BGP. See BGP and routing protocol.

The ISO 4217 currency code for the Egyptian Pound.

EGP

ISO 4217 code for the Egyptian pound. It was introduced in 1834, replacing the piastre, which continued to circulate at a value of 1% of a pound. Between 1885 and 1914, the pound was effectively pegged to gold. Afterward, it was formally pegged to the British pound until 1962, when the peg switched to the U.S. dollar at various rates. The pound became a floating currency in 1989.
