eosinophilic oesophagitis
A benign, possibly allergic condition, which affects young males with dysphagia.Clinical findings
Symptoms of gastrooesophageal reflux disease—e.g., epigastric and chest pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, regurgitation, dysphagia with motility disturbances; often associated with extra-intestinal allergic symptoms (e.g., asthma, chronic rhinitis, eczema). May present late with strictures.
Endoscopy
White punctate lesions, white exudate, ringed appearance, linear furrows.
DiffDx
Reflux oesophagitis, oesophageal leiomyomatosis, eosinophilic gastroenteritis.
Management
Corticosteroids, dietary restriction.
