Cabinet of his Imperial Majesty

 

the office that managed the personal property of the royal family, among other matters, between 1704 and 1917. Established in 1704 by Peter I, it was the tsar’s chancellery, managing his finances and property and conducting his correspondence. It was headed by a cabinet secretary, A. V. Makarov. Abolished on May 27, 1727, it was reestablished on Dec. 12, 1741, as the private chancellery of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. When the Imperial Court Ministry was established in 1826, the cabinet was incorporated into it. It was abolished on Feb. 26, 1917.
