Eguren, José María
(hōsā` mārē`ä ĕgo͞o`rān), 1882–1942, Peruvian poet. Originally devoted to modernismomodernismo, movement in Spanish literature that had its beginning in Latin America. It was paramount in the last decade of the 19th cent. and the first decade of the 20th cent.
Modernismo derived from French symbolism and the Parnassian school.

His strange images, symbols, and dreamlike visions were wrought into a framework of formal perfection. Simbólicas (1911), La canción de las figuras (1916), and Poesías (1929) are his best-known collections.
