Fengching

Fengching

a capital of the Chou state, in China. According to legend, Fengching was founded in the second half of the 11th century B.C. by Wen Wang, the leader of the Chou. The city was situated on a bank of the Fenshui Chiang, near modern Sian. Circa 770 B.C. Fengching was invaded by nomads; the capital of the Chou was subsequently moved to the east. Excavations carried out on the western bank of the Fenshui between 1956 and 1960 uncovered the remains of an extensive settlement dating from the 11th to seventh centuries B.C.; some Chinese archaeologists consider these remains to be the ruins of Fengching.
