field-emission display

[′fēld i‚mish·ən di‚splā] (electronics) A flat-panel electronic display in which electrons are extracted from an array of cold-cathode emitters by applying a voltage between the cathode and a control electrode, and the electrons are then accelerated without deflection over a distance of less than 1 millimeter before colliding with a phosphor-coated flat faceplate.
