Arkad’ev, Arkadii Ivanovich

(real surname, Kuderko). Born Jan. 25 (Feb. 7), 1907, in Odessa. Soviet Russian actor and director. People’s Artist of the USSR (1977).

After making his debut in 1925, Arkad’ev performed in Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Kiev, and at the Drama Theater of the Carpathian Military District in L’vov. His roles have included Fučík in Buriakovskii’s Prague Remains Mine, Lukonin in Simonov’s A Lad from Our Town, and Vozhak in Vishnevskii’s An Optimistic Tragedy. The plays he has directed include Stepanov and Popov’s Port Arthur (1953) and Lavrent’ev’s The Kriazhevs (1955). He has also appeared in films, such as Your Contemporary.

Arkad’ev received the State Prize of the USSR in 1952 and has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
