Coopers Rock State Forest
Location:13 miles east of Morgantown.
Facilities:25 standard campsites, picnic areas, picnic shelters, overlooks, hiking and biking trails (50 miles), historic site, playgrounds.
Activities:Camping, fishing, hiking, hunting (in season), rock climbing, sightseeing.
Special Features:During the Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps built numerous structures in the forest. Eleven of these structures, including the rustic picnic shelters near the overlook, have been included in the National Register of Historic Places. The park features bands of rockcliffs lining the Cheat River Gorge and provide many overlooks, the centerpiece being the main overlook which furnishes a panorama of the gorge and distant horizons.
