Customs Gold Unit Customs Gold UnitA currency used in the Republic of China before its evacuation to Taiwan. It was issued in 1930, originally only to settle international trade transactions. It was pegged to the U.S. dollar and was backed by silver. In 1942, it began to circulate throughout Republic of China-controlled areas. In 1948, the year before the ROC retreated to Taiwan, the customs gold unit ceased to circulate. |
