eye relief

eye relief

The distance between the human eyeball and the eyelens of an eyepiece at which the observer can see clearly the full field of view. This is when the exit pupil corresponds with the pupil of the eye. Low-power eyepieces usually have good eye relief and high powers very little. An observer who must wear spectacles may find it difficult to use the higher powers.
