CACNA2D3

CACNA2D3

A gene on chromosome 3p21.1 that encodes the alpha-2D3 subunit of a voltage-dependent calcium channel, which regulates calcium current density and activation/inactivation kinetics of the calcium channel, and which plays an important role in excitation-contraction coupling. CACNA2D3 acts as a regulatory subunit for P/Q-type (CACNA1A), N-type (CACNA1B), L-type (CACNA1C or CACNA1D), but not T-type (CACNA1G) calcium channels.
