Corrected transposition of pulmonary arteries & aorta Pediatric cardiology A congenital anomaly in which the great arteries are in a mirror-image of their normal location; the aorta arises from the anterior left heart and the pulmonary artery from the right posterior heart, the blood from the morphologic right atrium reaches the pulmonary trunk by traversing a mitral valve and morphologic left ventricle; blood from the morphologic left atrium traverses the tricuspid valve and morphologic right ventricle reaching the aorta; the coronary arteries are similarly reversed, ie the right is anterior, the left, posterior; many of those with this complex have other cardiac malformations including conduction and ventricular septal defects, requiring surgical repair Operative mortality 25% Ten-yr survival 60%.
