Hematology Any defect of RBC production characterized by morphologic abnormalities of the nuclei and cytoplasm in the BM, which may be acquired–eg pernicious anemia, sideroblastic anemia, 2º to myeloproliferative disorders or erythroleukemia, or congenital–eg thalassemia, or congenital dyserythropoietic anemia.
