Demin, Lev Stepanovich

 

Born Jan. 11, 1926, in Moscow. Pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR; colonel of the engineers. Hero of the Soviet Union (1974). Candidate of technical sciences (1963). Member of the CPSU since 1956.

After graduating from the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Engineering Academy in 1956, Demin worked in research sectors of the air force. He was named a cosmonaut in 1963. From Aug. 26, to Aug. 28, 1974, Demin flew with G. V. Sarafanov aboard the Soyuz 15 spacecraft, as flight engineer. The flight lasted 48 hr 12 min.

Demin has been awarded the Order of Lenin and various medals.
