Copper Halides

Copper Halides

compounds of copper and the halogens: CuX and CuX2 (where X is F, Cl, Br, or I). The ability of a CuCl solution in concentrated hydrochloric acid to absorb carbon monoxide, CO, in the cold with subsequent formation of CuClCO is made use of in gas analysis. The most widely used copper (II) halide is CuCl2 (mordant in dyeing processes, catalyst).
