copy DNA

DNA

deoxyribonucleic acid.complementary DNA (cDNA) (copy DNA (cDNA)) synthetic DNA transcribed from a specific RNA through the reaction of the enzyme reverse transcriptase.

copy DNA

or

complementary DNA

a DNA molecule obtained in vitro from an RNA (usually eukaryotic mRNA) TEMPLATE, using the ENZYME REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE. The DNA strand (cDNA) is complementary to the RNA. The RNA is removed after cDNA synthesis and the second cDNA strand is then synthesized using the enzyme DNA POLYMERASE to generate double-stranded DNA. cDNA thus represents double-stranded DNA copies of transcribed regions of a genome and, if using mature mRNA as template, will lack any INTRONS associated with the genomic region.
