Copying and Duplicating Technology

Copying and Duplicating Technology

a term frequently used to designate means of duplicating and copying documents.

Duplication of originals refers to the reproduction of materials by devices used in the small-graphic-arts and printing industries based on offset, stencil, or hectographic methods. These methods provide for the quick preparation of material for publication, the production of printing plates, and the running off of copies of the material. With the exception of photocopy, copying refers to direct reproduction from the original and does not require any special preparation of the document or printing form. Since the 1960’s the use of copying and duplicating technology in small-scale publishing (for example, of books) has been growing continually.
