Dzhavakheti
Dzhavakheti
(Kechut or Mokryi Mountains), a mountain range in the Georgian and Armenian SSR’s. Length, about 50 km; maximum height, 3,196 m, at Mt. Achkasar.
The Dzhavakheti Range is formed mainly of trachytic lavas. The mountains are situated in the path of moist air masses coming from the west, which means that the slopes receive a great deal of rainfall (hence the name Mokryi [Wet]). The slopes have mountain steppes and subalpine and alpine meadows.
