Dzhirgalantu

(or Dzhirgalantu-Khairkhan), a mountain range in the western part of the Mongolian People’s Republic. It is 120 km long and reaches an altitude of 3,796 m. The range extends from the northwest to the southeast and is a link in the forward northeastern chain of the Mongolian Altai. It consists of two massifs, separated by a low connecting ridge. The steep eastern slopes rise above the Great Lakes Depression to an altitude of 2,500 m, while the western ones are rugged and form badlands in some areas. The peaks are covered with snow most of the year. Dry steppes and semideserts predominate.
