Dzhugdyr
Dzhugdyr
a mountain range in northeastern Amur Ob-last, RSFSR. It forms a bridge 100 km long between the Stanovoi and Maia ranges. Elevations of 1,000 to 1,500 m (maximum elevation, 2,107 m) predominate. Dzhugdyr is a section of the southern part and the folded edge of the Aldan Shield that has been raised by recent movements. It is composed of metamorphic schist that has been broken through by granite. Vast sections of ancient leveled-out surfaces have been preserved. The peaks are dome-shaped, and more seldom there are pointed crests with single ancient-glacial cirques. The slopes are covered by mountainous larch taiga; higher up are thickets of Japanese stone pine, and on the bald peaks there is mountain tundra.
