Colloid, Aging of

the spontaneous, slow change that occurs in the properties of colloids. Aging manifests itself through an enlargement of the particles of the dispersed phase (coagulation, coalescence) and through sedimentation, formation of a gel structure (gelation), syneresis, and recrystallization.
