colloidal [kŏ-loi´d'l] of the nature of a gel or gluelike substance in which particles are held in suspension.colloidal gold test a test of cerebrospinal fluid based on alterations in the albumin-globulin ratios that occur in certain disorders of the central nervous system. Normal spinal fluid, when diluted and added to a colloidal gold suspension, will not precipitate the colloidal gold. The extent of precipitation is indicative of various diseases such as multiple sclerosis, poliomyelitis, and encephalitis. A positive reaction also occurs in the presence of neurosyphilis.
