calcaneal spur syndrome calcaneal spur syndrome The effects of a spur of bone (exostosis), readily visible on X-ray, that forms on the inner weight-bearing surface of the heel bone (calcaneus) and extends forward horizontally into the soft tissue (plantar fascia) beneath the skin of the sole. The condition is painful in its early stages but tends to become less so as the spur enlarges. It is treated by injections of steroid mixed with a local anaesthetic. |
