Gabars
Gabars
converts to Zoroastrianism in Iran. The Gabars are descendants of Persians who did not adopt Islam after the Arab conquest of Iran in the mid-seventh century. They call themselves bikh dinan —those professing the true faith. They worship fire and live mainly in Yezd and Kerman in religious communes headed by priests. There are several thousand Gabars in Iran. Some of them moved to India after the seventh century, where their descendants are known as Parsi.
