Frank, Jerome David

(1909– ) psychiatrist, educator; born in New York City. He was associated with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (1942), where he became professor of psychiatry in 1959. His major research interest was the shared healing features of all forms of psychotherapy, especially the psychotherapeutic relationship, the arousal of hope, enhancement of the patient's sense of mastery, and the arousal of the patient's emotions.
