Established: 1973.
Location:In Muscongus Bay, 25 miles east of Bath, Maine.
Special Features:The U.S. government constructed a lighthouse on the island in 1808, which was staffed by the Coast Guard until it was automated in 1967.
Habitats: Two islands comprising 12 total acres of open grasslands and stands of red spruce with a dense raspberry understory.
Access: Open September through March, dawn to dusk; closed April through August during the seabird nesting season. Accessible by boat only.
Wild life: Colonial seabirds, including common eider, black-crowned night heron, black guillemot, Leach's storm petrel, and osprey.
