Franklin Mountains


Franklin Mountains

 

a mountain chain in northwestern Canada, along the right bank of the Mackenzie River. The Franklin Mountains are 430 to 450 km long and rise to a maximum elevation of 1,443 m, at Mount Clark. They are composed primarily of limestones, shale, and sandstones and are dissected by deep river valleys. Taiga, chiefly consisting of spruce, covers the slopes. The mountains are named in honor of J. Franklin.
