Gastrozooids

zooids in colonies of Coelenterates (hydropolyps, hydrocorals, and Siphonophores) that carry out the digestive function. They resemble polyps with partially or completely atrophied tentacles. Located nearby or at the base of the gastrozooid are zooids adapted for capturing prey (dactylozooids, stinging tentacles) and which transfer their prey to the gastrozooid for digestion.
