Gordon, Caroline

(1895–1981) writer, teacher; born in Trenton, Ky. She graduated from Bethany College, W.Va. (B.A. 1916), and married Allen Tate (1924; divorced 1954). She worked as a reporter in Tennessee (1920–24), taught at several institutions, including the University of North Carolina and Columbia, and long lived in Princeton, N.J. She is known for her novels of the American South, as in Penhally (1931).
