Dates of birth and death unknown. Imam of Dagestan and Chechnia.
Gadzhi-Magomed was the son of a comrade-in-arms of Shamil’, Sheikh Abdurakhman Khadzhi Sogratlinskii. He is known as a theologian and as the author of a poem in honor of three imams—Gazi-Magomed, Gamzatbek, and Shamil’. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877, Gadzhi-Magomed led a revolt of the mountain people in Dagestan and Chechnia against tsarist administrators, but he showed himself to be an inconsistent and indecisive leader. He was taken prisoner on Nov. 4, 1877, and executed at the decision of a military field court.
