Bandai-Asahi

national park in Japan, on the northern part of the island of Honshu. There are four separate sections in adjacent regions of the prefectures of Yamagata, Fukushima, and Niigata. Area 189,661 hectares. Founded in 1950. The park is located in volcanic mountains that are covered by broad-leaved and coniferous forests; on the summits there are meadows and thickets. The Macaca ofuscata, serow, and black bear live in the park. Ten preserves with a total area of more than 17,000 hectares have been created on the territory of Bandai-Ashai.
