Bandar-e Pahlavi

 

(also Pahlavi; known as Enzeli until 1925), a city and port in Iran on the southern shore of the Caspian Sea, in the Gilan region. Population, 48,000 (1971). A highway links Pahlavi with Tehran. Most of the maritime freight traffic between Iran and the USSR passes through the port, which was rebuilt with help from the USSR. An important fishing center, the city has fish-processing, rice-cleaning, tobacco, vegetable-oil, and woodworking enterprises and a shipyard. It is also a seaside resort.
