Gatov, Aleksandr Borisovich

Born Nov. 14 (26), 1899, in Kharkov. Soviet Russian poet, translator, and literary scholar.

Gatov is the author of several collections of lyric verse and of the book Eugène Pottier: Life and Works (1933). He is a prolific translator; his translations include the collections Revolutionary Poetry of the West in the Nineteenth Century (1930), Poets of Armenia (1934), Poets of the Paris Barricades (2nd ed., 1935), Eugène Pottier: Songs, Verse, and Narrative Poems (1966), and Bulgarian Poets (1969). He has been awarded the Bulgarian Order of Cyril and Methodius and various medals.
