[′ban·dəd ′strək·chər] (metallurgy) The appearance of a metal showing light and dark parallel bands in the direction of rolling or working. (meteorology) The appearance of precipitation echoes in the form of long bands as presented on radar plan position indicator (PPI) scopes. (petrology) An outcrop feature in igneous and metamorphic rocks due to alternation of layers, stripes, flat lenses, or streaks that obviously differ in mineral composition or texture.
