[fuc(us) + -ose.]fucose (ˈfjuːkəʊs; ˈfjuːkəʊz) na hexose deoxy sugar found in certain glycans and polysaccharidesTranslationsFucoseenUK
Fucose (also 6-deoxy-galactose), a monosaccharide of the de-oxyhexose class. Fucose is found in many natural compounds, in which it occurs mainly in the L-form. It is found in the L-form, for example, in certain bacterial and plant polysaccharides, in oligosaccharides in milk, and in glycoproteins including substances of blood groups. D-fucose is a component of certain plant glycosides. L-fucose has the structural formula Enzymes known as fucosidases split the fucose radical from polysaccharide molecules. fucoseenUK
fucose [fu´kōs] a monosaccharide occurring as l-fucose in a number of mucopolysaccharides and mucoproteins.fu·cose (Fuc), (fyū'kōs), 6-Deoxygalactose; a methylpentose, the l-configuration of which occurs in the mucopolysaccharides of the blood group substances, in human milk (as a polysaccharide), and elsewhere in nature. The d-configuration has been found in certain antibiotics and in certain plant glycosides. Synonym(s): rhodeosefucose (fyo͞o′kōs′)n.
