Giauque, William (Francis)

(1895–1982) chemist; born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Both parents were United States citizens. At the University of California: Berkeley (1920–62), he researched the behavior of substances at extremely low temperatures, approaching 0° Kelvin. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry (1949) for his contributions in the field of chemical thermodynamics.
