Geodetic Center

Geodetic Center

an underground structure that is made of concrete, reinforced concrete, stone, or metal and that fixes the position of a geodetic control point. A geodetic center is designed to last for a long time. Geodetic centers are used to fix the positions of triangulation stations, traverse stations, survey stations, and reference objects; survey stations form a network laid out by means of both triangulation and traversing. Specially designed geodetic centers are installed in areas of shallow (up to 1.7 m in depth) frozen ground or deep frozen ground, in permafrost areas, and in rocky or sandy areas (seeDATUM POINT, BENCHMARK, and GEODESY).
