Special Features:Originally created in 1982 as the Lajitas Museum Desert Gardens, the land was purchased by Texas Parks and Wildlife, who renamed it after Dr. Barton Warnock, a well-respected botanist who specialized in the study of the region. The Center interprets 570 million years of geological history and the five biological landscapes of the Chihuahuan Desert, better known to west Texas travelers as the Big Bend area. The renovated Center is the result of an international partnership of state and national park experts in Texas and the Mexican states of Coahuila and Chihuahua, and it serves as the eastern entrance gateway to Big Bend Ranch State Park.
