Agreements on the Choice of Jurisdiction

(Prorogation Agreements), agreements on jurisdiction establishing which government’s courts are competent to resolve disputes over foreign-trade deals. Agreements on jurisdiction that select a court are recognized as effective in the law of most countries. They are used extensively in Soviet foreign trade, and provision is made for them in some trade agreements between the USSR and foreign countries. When a trade agreement does not include a provision for jurisdiction, Soviet foreign-trade associations may include in the agreement a clause on jurisdiction over disputes arising from the agreement itself.
