Galanshin, Konstantin Ivanovich

Born Feb. 28 (Mar. 12), 1912, in the village (now city) of Gavrilov-Iam, Yaroslavl Oblast. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1944.

The son of an office worker, Galanshin graduated from the Urals Industrial Institute in 1937 and worked as an engineer in the Uralenergo and Permenergo power systems. In 1947 he was made director of the power plants at Gubakha and Berezniki in Perm’ Oblast. He became first secretary of the Berezniki city committee of the CPSU in 1950. In 1954, Galanshin was named secretary of the Perm’ Oblast committee of the CPSU; he served as second secretary of the committee from 1956 to 1960 and as first secretary from 1960 to 1968. In 1963 and 1964 he was first secretary of the Perm’ industrial oblast committee of the CPSU.

Galanshin was minister of the pulp and paper industry of the USSR from 1968 to 1980. A member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1961 to 1981, he was a deputy to the sixth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Galanshin has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals. Galanshin retired in 1980.
