Gavriil Veshnikov
Veshnikov, Gavriil Grigor’evich
(pseudonym, Baal Khabyryys). Born Apr. 15, 1918, in the First Kurbsakh Nasleg in present-day Ust’-Aldan Raion, Yakut ASSR; died Apr. 22, 1969, in Moscow, and buried in Yakutsk. Soviet Yakut poet.
Veshnikov studied at the Yakut Pedagogical Institute. He was a teacher for many years and published the collections of poems Immortality (1945), My Generation (1951), Songs of Friendship (1954), Lyric Poetry (1958), What Saith the Heart (1961), and The Toiler (1968). He wrote many works for children, including the collections To Little Friends (1948) and They Will Grow Up to Be Real People (1966).
