Geok-Tepe

an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of Geok-Tepe Raion, Ashkhabad Oblast, Turkmen SSR. Situated in the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains, in the Akhal-Tekin oasis. Railroad station 45 km northwest of Ashkhabad. Population, 7,700 (1970). Geok-Tepe is a major wine-growing center; vegetables are also cultivated.
