Aviation Engineer Service

a service of the USSR Air Force. Its mission is to provide aviation engineering support to air force units—that is, the maintenance of airplanes, helicopters, gliders, aircraft engines, armament, and equipment in good working order and ready for operation. The aviation engineer service also organizes and implements the technically correct use of aviation matériel, is in charge of the technical training of the flight and engineering and technical personnel, and directs scientific research work for the improvement of aviation materiel. It develops maintenance instructions and manuals, informs commanders concerning the state of aviation materiel, and assists air traffic controllers in directing the actions of flight personnel. There are similar services in the air forces of other states.
