Galich Treasure

a hidden collection of copper artifacts used for religious purposes (c. 13th century B.C.), found in 1835 near the city of Galich, present-day Kostroma Oblast. It contained copper figurines of males (a sun god and a moon god), figures of lizards, an ax, a dagger, knives, and bracelets. A hunting and fishing campsite with hollowed and ridged ceramics, a copper knife, and stone tools was discovered at the same time near the Galich treasure (excavations by V. A. Gorodtsov in 1924).
