Gidroproekt

the S. Ia. Zhuk All-Union Project Surveying and Scientific Research Institute, supervised by the Ministry of Energy Resources and Electrification of the USSR. It deals with the water energy projects that determine the ways for the multiple use and preservation of water resources in the USSR and with projects of hydroelectric power stations, navigation, and industrial water-supply canals.

The institute has planning and surveying departments in Moscow, with divisions and branches in Leningrad, Kharkov, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Baku, Yerevan, Krasnoiarsk, Kuibyshev, and Alma-Ata; it also has a research department, an experimental base, and other subdivisions. Gidroproekt has studied more than 500 of the principal water systems in the USSR; and it has developed plans for navigation projects, for industrial water canal projects, and for massive hydroelectric power stations at Bratsk, Krasnoiarsk, Saian-Shushenskoe, and elsewhere. Using plans developed by Gidroproekt, many socialist and developing countries have completed a number of water resource projects. Since 1958, Gidroproekt has published Trudy, on current problems of planning, surveying, and researching water power and hydraulic engineering projects. It was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1961.
