free radical inactivator

free radical inactivator

Any molecule that reduces free radical-induced damage, including ceruloplasmin, cysteine, glutathione, superoxide dismutase, transferrin, vitamin E and d-penicillamine.
Superoxide dismutase is the major “scavenger” enzyme, which catalyses the reduction of reactive oxygen species to O2 and H2O; free radical production by endothelial cells during coronary artery ischaemia, which is inculpated in myocytolysis, may be reduced in experimental systems by pre-treatment with superoxide dismutase.
