Geometrization of Deposits

Geometrization of Deposits

the representation on graphs of the structural and qualitative features of mineral deposits. It includes the study, systematization, and mathematical treatment of the morphological features of mineral deposits, as well as the elucidation of the basic principles and the character of the location of useful and detrimental components within the body of ore.

Geometrization of deposits is accomplished by the processing of data gained from prospecting and exploitation of deposits. The most common graphs include hypsometric charts of deposits, which reflect the shape, dimensions, and elements of the strata; isograph charts of the composition of useful and detrimental components, which show their distribution in the deposit; isograph charts of linear reserves of a mineral resource, according to which it is possible to determine the reserves of the mineral in an area of 1 sq m at any part of the deposit; isograph charts of the linear reserves of useful components, which make possible the calculation of the quantity (by weight) of the particular component per square meter of area; charts of the thickness of deposits, which give an indication of the thickness of the deposits at any of its parts; and charts of the deposit’s depth, which make possible estimates of the depth of bedding of the deposit at any point. Geometrization of deposits is part of the scientific discipline of mining geometry.
