Gazli

 

an urban-type settlement in Romitan Raion, Bukhara Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Located in the Kyzylkum Desert, 106 km northwest of Bukhara. Population, 7,800 (1970). A major deposit of natural gas was discovered in the region of Gazli; the establishment in 1958 of the settlement of Gazli was associated with the exploitation of this gas. Gas reserves amount to approximately 500 billion cu m. From this deposit gas pipelines have been laid to the Urals, the Central European USSR, Tashkent, and other places.
