Gold Guide

A book jointly produced by the NHS and the UK Department of Health which delineates competence-based specialty training in the UK. All doctors recruited into new specialty and general-practice training programmes approved by the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB—which merged in 2010 with the GMC) are known as Specialty Registrars (StRs). The Gold Guide builds on and replaces the Guide to Specialist Registrar Training (the “Orange Book”) and The GP Registrar Scheme Vocational Training for General Medical Practice UK Guide (the “Green Book”), and is for doctors who entered specialty training programmes after August 2007.
